The brief
Tidal Notes is a fictional editorial series about paying attention to a landscape that never holds still. Rather than presenting the coast as a destination, the concept follows smaller changes: the edge of a wave, the texture left in sand and the way distance changes the color of the water.
A point of view
The challenge was to build a coherent sequence from images with very different scales. Wide views establish place, closer observations interrupt that certainty, and quiet intervals allow the reader to reset. The story is carried by relationships between images rather than a chronological account of a journey.
The design language
A cool palette and restrained captions keep the emphasis on the photographic material. Type is used as a pacing device: a short line can separate two images, introduce a new observation or bring the reader back to a wider context without explaining every detail.
From research to a system
The editorial process began with an image contact sheet, followed by several alternative sequences. Repetition was used deliberately, with horizons and curves appearing in different forms. The selected order moves between openness and density, creating a rhythm that can work on paper and on a phone.
What the concept includes
The concept includes a publication structure, caption conventions and a responsive online edition. A simple gallery supports close inspection, while the surrounding text provides a second route through the work for visitors who want to understand the editorial decisions.
About this demo
All content is demonstration material. The photographs are stock visual references and are not presented as original photography by the fictional designer. Replace the series with your own images, locations, captions and publication details before using this as a real portfolio case study.
